I loved, loved, LOVED this book. Larissa delivers more peak storytelling in a short package that was fun all the way through. Larissa introduces a new race of people, the gem elves, with her FMC (female main character) Jedda, who can sense and absorbs gems into her body, one of which happens to be the very gem that Razr is looking for.
Razr was a fun, interesting mix of diamond heist, 007 espionage, and Indiana Jones-style shenanigans. I liked Jedda’s character, but I really liked Razr’s character.
Razr, also known as Razriel back when he was an angel, was sent to Azagoth to help train his memitim. This is also a punishment, as Razr had his wings bound after failing a mission and losing a powerful weapon- a Gem of Enoch. If he can find the two missing Gems, he will be reinstated back to his Heavenly purpose and regain his wings. Razr and Jedda are forced to look for the gem together after being trapped by a True Fallen angel and a nasty curse.
The two are inexplicably attracted to one another, and there’s no shortage of spice in this one. Part of Razr’s punishment is a brand that forces him to be whipped or his insides basically turn to mush, or an angel will show up and beat him 10 times worse. That adds some extra angst to the story, and really makes you feel bad for the poor guy.
Overall, I really liked this one. The concept of gem elves is really cool, and I liked Razr’s angsty punishment stuff. It was a great little story, and I hope I get to see these two in future books, like I’ve seen Azagoth, Lilliana, Hades, and Cat from the previous Demonica Underworld books.
